The 2013 Chevrolet Silverado

The Hydra-Matic four-speed/six-speed, electronically controlled automatic transmissions in the Chevrolet Silverado have an input speed sensor and stand-alone Transmission Control Modules that — based on driver input — optimize shift quality.

The end result is consistently smooth and quiet shifting sustained with Dexron VI transmission fluid that delivers more than twice the durability and stability of previous fluids.

When rear-wheel slippage is detected at lower speeds, the available GM segment-exclusive automatic locking rear differential allows additional traction on difficult and rough terrains. If one of the rear wheels has traction while the other does not, the locking rear axle automatically sends power to the wheel with grip to move the vehicle.

The available, lockable EZ Lift tailgate takes only about 7.3kg of effort to operate. This is roughly a40 percent reduction in the force required to lift the tailgate compared to the previous-generation Silverado. This makes for easy and quick access to tools and cargo in the pickup bed. And, as with all Silverado models, this tailgate can be easily removed when needed.

The available Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist system features audio and visual signals to help alert you if an object is behind your vehicle. When traveling in reverse at low speeds, sensors in the rear bumper alert you when the pickup is approaching certain stationary objects, such as trailers, up to 2.4m behind the vehicle.
