There are few places you’d rather be than inside a Tahoe. The luxurious interior is quiet, refined and beautifully appointed with leather seats, chrome panel surrounds and adjustable pedals for tailored driving. Striking an ideal balance between space, comfort and safety, the cabin seats up to nine with head-curtain side airbags for all rows.

Second-row seating features a power-release switch, which helps deliver levels of convenience and refinement that are expected in Tahoe. Just the touch of a button sends the seats into motion, first folding and then tumbling forward. This innovative feature makes it decidedly easier for passengers to enter or exit the third row of seats.

In addition to heated/cooled seats, the Tahoe features segment-exclusive power fold-and-tumble second-row bench seating for a high level of convenience and comfort.

Z71 built to scale

No stones left unturned. Serious off-road ability is at your command with the available Z71 Off-road Package. The legendary Z71 suspension leads the charge, aided by rugged 18-inch wheels and on/off-road tires, an automatic locking rear differential, front recovery hooks, a durable Skid Plate Package and a high-capacity air cleaner. The 239 kW (320 hp) (net) Vortec 5.3L V8 engine supplies the muscle, while high-pressure, gas-charged monotube shocks help smooth out rough terrain. Massive wheel flares, an aggressive front fascia, satin-chrome tubular assist steps, door handles, grille insert and mirror caps highlight the exterior appearance. 4x4 models feature the Autotrac system to help you take on your next adventure.

Why go outside to play?

Everything you need is in the Z71. The Z71 Off-road Package features leather-appointed Ebony seats that can also be accented with Morocco Brown or Light Titanium inserts. A brushed-metal appearance is found on the instrument panel and center stack, as well as the steering wheel, providing a distinctive look that is only matched by the Z71 exterior. Z71-branded gauges round out the package. Tri-zone automatic climate controls are also standard on 2LT, as is an in-dash six-disc CD changer with an auxiliary audio jack for your iPod^® device and USB port.

Civil engineering

The front frame section was designed with stronger hydroformed rails to be torsionally stiffer, which reduces twisting and improves the ride. Increases in front and rear track widths help contribute to ride stability. Relocated rear cross members have been modified to improve durability.

The coil-over-shock front suspension with forged-aluminum lower control arms has less sensitivity to minor road irregularities and more tuning capability in elastomeric bushings in the suspension than a torsion bar design, providing excellent ride and handling on all road surfaces. A front axle, that features a four-point mounting system, further isolates passengers from vibrational road inputs.

Through an exhaustive design process and extensive wind-tunnel testing, the 2013 Tahoe achieves impressive aerodynamics. Its streamlined shape – including miniscule 4.0mm front-end gaps, a sleekly contoured front end, and a trailing roof edge that allows Tahoe to cut through the air – provides a drag coefficient that is lower than the competitions.

Rack-and-pinion Steering

The front frame bay and components of the steering system were reengineered to help provide precise steering feel and excellent response to driver input.

Quiet Ride

Mounting-point improvements were made to the axle, suspension, and engine to provide increased isolation from idle shake and rough roads. Plus, a new flex coupling between the tailpipe and engine helps isolate exhaust noise.

Tahoe has authentic Off-road ability, thanks to the Autotrac active transfer case (standard on 4x4 models) that helps it adjust to varying road conditions. The Autotrac system features four drive modes (2HI, AUTO/4WD, 4HI, and 4LO) plus a neutral setting.

2HI is the most efficient driving mode.
AUTO/4WD, when engaged, regulates the torque delivered to the front axle to optimize traction and vehicle handling.
4HI helps handle snow, ice, mud, and most Off-road conditions.
4LO helps you take on steep hills, deep sand, mud, or snow.

When rear-wheel slippage is detected at lower speeds, the locking differential mechanism locks the rear axle, sending maximum drive power to both rear wheels. Standard on all models.

The Chevrolet Tahoe features a heavy duty 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission providing improved fuel efficiency. This smooth shifting automatic transmission comes with overdrive tow/haul modes and Driver Shift Control.

Dynamic fuel economy

The Vortec 5300 V8 engine is the evolution of everything we’ve learned about power, performance and efficiency. The engine features Active Fuel Management technology and helps Chevrolet Tahoe balance up to 239 kW (320 hp) (net) with best-in-class fuel economy.

The Composite Intake Manifold design allows the Vortec 5300 to deliver high levels of torque at low-range and mid-range engine speeds – ideal for towing – yet still deliver plenty of airflow for peak engine horsepower.

With Active Fuel Management, power is delivered when you need it. In situations where extra power is not needed, such as cruising down the highway on level roads, Active Fuel Management deactivates four of the eight cylinders with seamless precision.

The Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ 4WD gives you full-size towing capability.

When load demands increase, such as when the vehicle accelerates or travels uphill, cylinders are reactivated to provide eight-cylinder operation.
The bottom line is, the Vortec 5300 V8 is more efficient in providing the energy to move the vehicle when only four of the eight cylinders are operating.
The powerful 32-bit engine control computer triggers cylinder deactivation based on inputs from vehicle sensors making deactivation almost undetectable.
The 2013 Tahoe Active Fuel Management technology helps deliver an estimated 14.7L /100km city, 11.2L / 100km highway for 2WD models and 15.7L / 100km city, 11.2L / 100km highway for 4x4 models.
In addition, exhaust-noise silencing measures and revised powertrain mounts add to the engine’s overall smoothness.

Middle of nowhere. Center of everything

The Tahoe‘s rearview camera system includes a built-in camera mounted near the license plate. When you shift into reverse, an image from the camera is displayed in a portion of the rearview mirror (so you can still use the mirror). The mirror reverts to a normal full-frame reflection when you shift into Drive or Park.

This available feature has a new, larger 20cm monitor located in the headliner between the first and second row of seats for convenient second and third-row viewing. A third-row DVD screen is also available. It has two wireless headphones, a remote control unit, and the capability to play audio or video, helping deliver entertainment everywhere you travel.

An available touch-screen navigation system includes a 17cm diagonal color display and voice recognition. Tri-zone automatic climate controls allow individual temperature customization for the driver, front passenger and rear-seat occupants.

Tahoe's power liftgate is remotely opened or closed by pressing the key fob button. The vehicle must be in park to operate, and a sensor stops the liftgate if an obstacle is encountered. Activation switches are also located in the front seat overhead console and on the bottom edge of the liftgate.

Factory-installed Remote Vehicle Starter System

The Vehicle Starter operates from up to 60 meters away and provides added security over aftermarket systems because it does not override the anti-theft engine immobilizer.

360 degrees of safety

Chevrolet is as serious about your well-being as you are. That’s why the 2013 Tahoe set ever-greater standards of safety with a long list of features and components to help cushion and protect both driver and passengers.

Standard on all trim levels, head-curtain side airbags help reduce the risk of injuries to all outboard occupants in certain side impacts. These airbags cover all rows and are designed to stay inflated in the unlikely event of a rollover, to help reduce the risk of ejection.

An available Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist uses sensors located in the rear bumper to detect certain stationary objects up to two-and-a-half meters behind the vehicle while travelling in reverse at low speed. The system then provides audio and visual warnings as you approach. Standard on LT and LTZ models.

An available factory-installed remote vehicle starter system operates from up to 60m away. You can also preset the temperature controls to heat up or cool down the interior before you get in. Tahoe LT and LTZ models.

Four-wheel Antilock Disc Brakes

There have been numerous enhancements to the braking system in the Chevrolet Tahoe, including larger rotors for greater stopping ability, a two-piston front and enhanced single-piston rear brake design for reduced noise, non-asbestos organic brake linings designed to extend brake life up to 65,000km with normal use, and an active brake booster system for enhanced pedal feel and reduced noise.

StabiliTrak^TM helps improve vehicle stability, particularly during emergency maneuvers. The system also includes Proactive Roll Avoidance, which reduces a vehicle’s tendency to roll over in an emergency situation. Here’s how StabiliTrak^TMworks:

The StabiliTrak^TM control module compares your steering input with the SUV’s actual response and then, if necessary, makes small, individual brake applications to enhance control and keep you on track.
StabiliTrak^TM automatically intervenes when it senses loss of lateral traction (sideslip), understeer (plowing), or oversteer (fishtailing).
In these situations, the system applies brake pressure and, if necessary, adjusts engine torque to help the driver get the vehicle back on track.

Safety Cage Enhancements

The high-strength, galvanized-steel safety cage demonstrates an excellent balance between mass, noise and vibration, crashworthiness and corrosion. In comparison to the previous generation, there have been improvements in the areas of both roof crush performance and body structure rigidity.

A Tire Pressure Monitor is standard in every Chevrolet Tahoe and monitors the tire inflation level in each of the four road tires. If any tire falls below a specified pressure, the driver is alerted via a message on the Driver Information Center.
