On the outside, the Chevrolet Suburban’s streamlined contours run flush across its smooth panel gaps. On the inside, the instrument panel components are touched with chrome surrounds while leather-appointed first and second-row seats emphasize the feeling of luxury. In a Chevrolet Suburban, your surroundings adjust to you – tri-zone automatic climate controls allow individual temperature customization for driver, front passenger and rear-seat occupants.

Second-row seating features a power-release switch, which helps deliver levels of convenience and refinement expected in a Suburban. Just the touch of a button sends the seats into motion, first folding and then tumbling forward. This innovative feature makes it decidedly easier for passengers to enter or exit the third row of seats.

Entertainment

An available touch-screen navigation radio system includes a 17 cm diagonal color display and voice recognition.

The 2013 Chevrolet Suburban rearview camera system includes a built-in camera mounted near the license plate. When you shift into reverse, an image from the camera is displayed in a portion of the rearview mirror (so you can still use the mirror). The mirror reverts to a normal full-frame reflection when you shift into Drive or Park.

This available feature has a new, larger 20cm monitor located in the headliner between the first and second row of seats for convenient second and third-row viewing. A third-row DVD screen is also available. It has two wireless headphones, a remote control unit, and the capability to play audio or video, helping deliver entertainment everywhere you travel.

The vehicle starter operates from up to 60 meters away and provides added security over aftermarket systems because it does not override the anti-theft engine immobilizer.

In addition to heated/cooled seats, the 2013 Chevrolet Suburban features segment-exclusive power fold-and-tumble second-row bench seating for a high level of refinement and comfort.

This is something you’ll find in every Suburban. With the second-row seats folded and the third-row seating removed, there is room for up to 3890L of cargo. And, since the Suburban offers a vast array of seating configurations, you can choose to carry people, cargo or both.

Capabilities

Power Liftgate

Available on LT and standard on LTZ, the power liftgate adds both functionality and convenience.

When the vehicle is in Park, simply press and hold the power release button on the key fob and the liftgate slowly opens — regardless of whether the vehicle is locked or not. To close the liftgate, press and hold the button again. If the vehicle is locked, the gate will also lock. In addition to the key fob, there are activation switches located in both the overhead console and at the bottom edge of the liftgate. As a safety measure, the liftgate will automatically stop if it encounters an obstacle.

Tow/Haul

Chevrolet Suburban has impressive maximum trailering and hauling capabilities. 3/4 ton models have the ability to tow up to 4355kg. 1/2 ton models can trailer up to 3674kg.* Plus both come equipped with available Tow/Haul mode and a Heavy-duty Trailering Package with a hitch platform, seven-wire harness, and two-inch receiver.

Impressive Aerodynamics

Through an exhaustive design process and extensive wind-tunnel testing, the 2013 Chevrolet Suburban achieves impressive aerodynamics. Its streamlined shape — including miniscule 4.0mm hood-to-fender gaps, a sleekly contoured front end, and a trailing roof edge that allows the Suburban to cut through the air — provides a low coefficient of drag.

An Exceptionally Smooth Ride

On 1/2 ton models, a new coil-over-shock front suspension, with forged-aluminum lower control arms, has less sensitivity to minor road irregularities, and its elastomeric bushing provides more tuning capability than a torsion bar design, providing excellent ride and handling on all road surfaces. A front axle that features a four-point mounting system further isolates passengers from vibrational road inputs.

Mounting-point improvements were made to the front axle, suspension, and engine to provide increased isolation from idle shake and rough roads. There’s also a flex coupling between the muffler tailpipe and engine that helps isolate exhaust noise during four-cylinder Active Fuel Management operation for the Vortec 5300 V8 engine.

The frame section was designed with stronger hydroformed rails to be torsionally stiffer, which reduces twisting and improves the ride. Increases in the front and rear track width help contribute to the ride stability. In addition, locations of cross members in the rear have been modified to improve durability.

Rack-and-pinion Steering

The front frame bay and components of the steering system on the Chevrolet Suburban were re-engineered to help provide precise steering feel and effort as well as excellent response to driver input.

6-Speed Transmission

The Chevrolet Suburban features the heavy-duty 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission. The smooth-shifting automatic transmission comes with overdrive Tow/Haul modes and a Driver Shift Control and offers improved fuel efficiency.

With Active Fuel Management, power is delivered when you need it. In situations where extra power is not needed, such as cruising down the highway on level roads, Active Fuel Management deactivates four of the eight cylinders with seamless precision.

  • When load demands increase, such as when the vehicle accelerates or travels uphill, cylinders are reactivated to provide eight-cylinder operation.
  • The bottom line is, the Vortec 5300 V8 is more efficient in providing the energy to move the vehicle when only four of the eight cylinders are operating.
  • The powerful 32-bit engine control computer triggers cylinder deactivation based on inputs from vehicle sensors making deactivation almost undetectable.
  • The 2013 Suburban Active Fuel Management technology helps deliver an estimated 14.7 l/100km city, 11.2 l/100km highway for 2WD models and 15.7 l/100km city, 11.2 l/100km highway for 4x4 models.
  • In addition, exhaust-noise silencing measures and revised powertrain mounts add to the engine’s overall smoothness.

The Vortec 5300 V8 engine is the evolution of everything we’ve learned about power, performance and efficiency. The engine features Active Fuel Management technology and helps the Chevrolet Suburban balance up to 239kW (320hp) (net) with best-in-class fuel economy.

The Composite Intake Manifold design allows the Vortec 5300 to deliver high levels of torque at low-range and mid-range engine speeds – ideal for towing – yet still deliver plenty of airflow for peak engine horsepower.

360 degrees of safety

That’s why the Suburban sets ever-greater standards of safety with a long list of features and components to help cushion and protect both driver and passengers.

Standard on all trim levels, head-curtain side airbags help reduce the risk of injuries to all outboard occupants in certain side impacts. These airbags cover all rows and are designed to stay inflated in the unlikely event of a rollover, to help reduce the risk of ejection.

Chevrolet is as serious about your well-being as you are.

An available Ultrasonic Rear Parking Assist uses sensors located in the rear bumper to detect certain stationary objects up to two-and-a-half meters behind the vehicle while travelling in reverse at low speed. The system then provides audio and visual warnings as you approach. Standard on LT and LTZ models.

An available factory-installed remote vehicle starter system operates from up to 60m away. You can also preset the temperature controls to heat up or cool down the interior before you get in.

Four-wheel Antilock Disc Brakes

There have been numerous enhancements to the braking system in the Chevrolet Suburban, including larger rotors for greater stopping ability, a two-piston front and enhanced single-piston rear brake design for reduced noise, non-asbestos organic brake linings designed to extend brake life up to 65,000 km with normal use, and an active brake booster system for enhanced pedal feel and reduced noise.

StabiliTrakTM Electronic Stability Control System

StabiliTrakTM helps improve vehicle stability, particularly during emergency maneuvers. The system also includes Proactive Roll Avoidance, which reduces a vehicle’s tendency to roll over in an emergency situation. Here’s how StabiliTrakTM works:

  • The StabiliTrakTM control module compares your steering input with the SUV’s actual response and then, if necessary, makes small, individual brake applications to enhance control and keep you on track.
  • StabiliTrakTM automatically intervenes when it senses loss of lateral traction (sideslip), understeer (plowing), or oversteer (fishtailing).
  • In these situations, the system applies brake pressure and, if necessary, adjusts engine torque to help the driver get the vehicle back on track.

Safety Cage Enhancements

The high-strength, galvanized-steel safety cage demonstrates an excellent balance between mass, noise and vibration, crashworthiness and corrosion. In comparison to the previous generation, there have been improvements in the areas of both roof crush performance and body structure rigidity.

A Tire Pressure Monitor is standard in every Suburban and monitors the tire inflation level in each of the four road tires. If any tire falls below a specified pressure, the driver is alerted via a message on the Driver Information Center.

Z71 Off–Road Suspension Package

Adventure is waiting for you and Suburban can get you there. Features of the available Z71 Off-Road Suspension Package include 18-inch aluminum wheels with on/off–road tires, Skid Plate Package, recovery hooks, unique front fascia, monotube shocks and wheel flares, and chrome grille inserts.
